Warranty Terms & Conditions
These Warranty Terms & Conditions apply to all jewellery purchased from Canadian Expert Jewellery (“CEJ”). By purchasing or receiving service from CEJ, the customer agrees to the following terms.
1. Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty
CEJ provides a Lifetime Warranty against defects in craftsmanship and structural
manufacturing issues on all jewellery made by CEJ.
This warranty covers:
- Structural craftsmanship defects
- Manufacturing flaws that affect the integrity of the piece
- Issues directly related to the construction of the jewellery
This warranty does not cover:
- Normal wear and tear
- Bent, broken, or thinned prongs caused by daily use
- Stone loss due to impact, force, snagging, or improper care
- Discolouration due to exposure to chemicals, lotions, chlorine, or household cleaners
- Damage caused by accidents, drops, or misuse
- Damage caused by another jeweller, repair shop, or third-party
- Modifications or sizing done outside CEJ
Any sign of unauthorized work voids the warranty.
2. 1-Year Small Stone Replacement
CEJ will replace any stone under 2mm that falls out within 1 year from the pickup/delivery date
at no charge, provided the loss is not due to visible impact, crushing, bending, or misuse.
Conditions:
- Applies only to stones originally set by CEJ
- Applies only to normal wear, not damage
- Does not include centre stones or side stones larger than 2mm
- CEJ must inspect the item before approving replacement
3. Complimentary Resizing (CustomEngagement Rings)
Custom engagement rings include one complimentary resizing anytime within the first year of
purchase, subject to the following:
Conditions:
- Applies only to custom rings made by CEJ
- Applies only to resizing within a safe range (extreme size changes may require remaking the ring at cost)
- Rings cannot be resized if doing so would compromise structural integrity
- Additional resizing after the first complimentary one is billable
4. Lifetime Cleaning, Prong Checks & Stone Tightening
CEJ offers lifetime complimentary care, which includes:
- Professional cleaning
- Prong inspection
- Stone security checks
- Lifetime stone tightening
Limitations:
- CEJ does not perform polishing or rhodium plating onsite
- Excessive wear will be noted and may require chargeable repair
- CEJ is not responsible for damage discovered during cleaning or inspection
5. Appraisals & Documentation
Complimentary Appraisals Provided For:
- All custom jewellery
- Purchases over $1,500
Paid appraisals are available for:
- Purchases under $1,500
- Client-owned items
CEJ also provides free appraisal updates every 3 years upon request.
Appraisal values are estimates and not guarantees of resale value.
6. Diamond Upgrade Program
Customers are eligible for CEJ’s Diamond Upgrade Program under the following conditions:
Eligibility:
- Applies only to IGI or GIA-certified natural or lab diamonds
- Applies only to engagement rings purchased from CEJ
- Original diamond must be in undamaged condition
- All original paperwork must be provided
Program Benefits:
- Customer receives 100% of the original diamond purchase value
- Upgrade diamond must be at least 2x (double) the original purchase price
Mounting, labour, and design changes are billed separately.
7. Exclusions & Limitations
This warranty does not cover:
- Lost centre stones of any size
- Loss or theft of jewellery
- Damage caused by improper care, scratching, friction, or harsh wear
- Chips, cracks, abrasions, or breakage on diamonds or gemstones
- Discolouration due to chemicals, saltwater, hot tubs, or pools
- Prong wear caused by normal daily use
- Damage due to sizing or modifications performed elsewhere
- Normal wear and tear over time
Natural and lab gemstones may contain unique characteristics such as inclusions, colour variations, or growth patterns. These are natural and not considered defects.
Handcrafted jewellery may display minor variations, which are part of artisanal production.
8. Customer Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for:
- Regular cleaning and maintenance
- Routine prong checks (recommended every 6–12 months)
- Insuring jewellery for loss, theft, or accidental damage
- Bringing items in for inspection at the first sign of looseness or wear
Failure to maintain the jewellery or ignoring early signs of wear may result in billable repairs.
9. Insurance Requirement
CEJ is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage once the jewellery leaves our possession.
Customers are strongly encouraged to insure their jewellery through their home insurance or a specialized jewellery insurer.
10. Warranty Void Conditions
The warranty is void if:
- Another jeweller performs repairs, resizing, or alterations
- The item is physically damaged, crushed, bent, or significantly worn
- The stone is lost due to impact or misuse
- The ring displays chemical damage
- Parts of the original design have been altered without CEJ approval
11. Warranty Claim Procedure
To make a warranty claim:
1. Bring or ship the item to CEJ for inspection
2. Provide proof of purchase (receipt, invoice, or record lookup)
3. CEJ will assess the item and determine whether the claim qualifies
4. CEJ will advise whether:
- The service is covered under warranty
- The service is billable
- The item requires third-party work
CEJ’s assessment is final.
Shipping costs for warranty claims are the customer’s responsibility.
12. CEJ’s Right to Refuse Warranty Service
CEJ reserves the right to refuse warranty service if:
- The conditions outlined above are not met
- The item shows signs of neglect, abuse, or unauthorized alteration
- The customer is acting in bad faith or attempting fraudulent claims
13. Limitation of Liability
CEJ is not liable for:
- Indirect or consequential damages
- Loss of stones due to impact or improper care
- Loss or theft after the item has left CEJ
- Cosmetic wear (scratches, scuffs, dullness)
- Damage caused by third-party jewellers
14. Modifications to Warranty Terms
CEJ reserves the right to modify its warranty terms at any time.
Warranty applies based on the terms in effect at the date of purchase.
