Gold Testing & Authentication

At Canadian Expert Jewellery, authenticity and quality are at the heart of everything we do. Whether you’ve inherited a cherished piece, purchased jewellery elsewhere, or simply want peace of mind — our professional gold testing services ensure your jewellery’s purity and value are accurately verified.

Every gold piece tells a story, and we’re here to make sure yours is genuine, valuable, and worth protecting.

Why Gold Testing Matters

Gold comes in many purities — from 10K to 24K, and in various colours like yellow, white, and rose gold. Unfortunately, not every piece in circulation is made with the quality it claims. Gold testing provides:

  • Verification of purity and karat level
  • Identification of plating or mixed metals
  • Accurate valuation for insurance or resale
  • Peace of mind for buyers and owners

Our certified jewellers use advanced testing methods to ensure precise, trustworthy results — whether you’re evaluating a new purchase or confirming the authenticity of a family heirloom.

Our Gold Testing Process

We combine traditional expertise with modern technology to deliver accurate assessments while maintaining the integrity of your piece.

Our process includes:

  1. Visual Inspection – Our jeweller examines hallmarks, craftsmanship, and visual indicators of gold quality.
  2. Electronic Testing – Using non-invasive digital testers, we measure the metal’s electrical conductivity to determine purity.
  3. Acid Testing (if needed) – A precise chemical method that confirms karat level. This is done carefully and only when required.
  4. XRF Analysis (upon request) – For high-value or complex pieces, we use X-ray fluorescence to provide a detailed metal composition breakdown.

You’ll receive a clear explanation of your results, including the karat purity, type of gold, and any other metals present in the piece.

When to Have Your Gold Tested

  • You’ve purchased gold from a private seller or estate
  • You’re insuring or appraising your jewellery
  • You suspect your gold may be plated or altered
  • You’ve inherited gold and want to confirm its authenticity
  • You’re selling or trading in gold and need verified value

Our Commitment to Transparency & Trust

As a family-owned London jeweller, we believe every customer deserves full transparency. Our gold testing process is always done in your presence whenever possible, with honest explanations and no hidden fees.

Whether your piece is 10K or 24K, we’ll make sure you know exactly what you have — and what it’s truly worth.
